Categorification of spin foam models

We describe state-sum models based on the path-integral quantization of BFCG theories. BFCG theories are categorical generalizations of BF theories, such that the Lie group of a BF theory is replaced by a Lie 2-group. We discuss the case of the Poincare/Euclidean 2-group since it is relevant for the construction of quantum gravity state sum models where the edge lengths of a triangulation, together with the spins labelling the triangles, are the basic variables.
